To celebrate the 2023 World Entrepreneurs Day, we'd love to share with you our story. So here it is..
Best friends since the age of 12 Joshua Christie and Joe Friess set up their own company at the grand old age of 20 years old and within 4 years the company is turning over in excess of a million pounds. Proving dedication and hard work does pay off.
They launched Darthome in 2018 to provide a wide range of inspirational and quirky ornaments, decorations and products for homes and gardens that could be purchased online. With limited money to invest trading started on Ebay with less than 100 products all housed in just 400sqft of space.
Not long after trading on EBay they took their next step and created an Amazon account to continue to sell their homeware products. With the help of a local entrepreneur by the end of year two the business had grown an impressive 697% in comparison to year one. This was achieved by moving premises into a property in the heart of Kettering where they both grew up to space of circa 2000 sqft and increasing their product range. That year Joshua and Joe celebrated when they hit their 10,000th order!
Then in 2020 the pandemic hit! As with many business owners Joshua and Joe could not foresee the future of the business. Not to dwell on what could be a slow year, they focused and their efforts, motivation and hard work paid off. At this point they were selling not only Amazon and Ebay but also Etsy many products that would appeal to people whilst they were at home. At the peak during the pandemic the business had grown by 185% which was phenomenal especially when many businesses were struggling to stay afloat.
By Easter in 2021 they celebrated once again as they hit there 100,000th order! As young entrepreneurs they continued to focus and look at further ways of growing their business and by the Summer of 2021 they launched their own ecommerce website.
Towards the end of 2021 it had become apparent that they had outgrown the space in Kettering and by January 2022 the too the next big leap and moved to premises with 7500sqft of space in Corby, Northants.
Today they are now approaching their 200,000th order, have in excess of 1800 products and focusing on continuing to grow their Corby business.
