With Spring officially here and the stunning sunshine now making itself known, a good old-fashioned Spring clean is essential to welcome the new season. There's many simple, quick and easy ways to freshen up your home, so let's get right into it!
1
Donate Old Clothes to Charity
With the Autumn Winter clothes making their way out of the top wardrobe spaces, turn your spare day into a fashion day and try on everything you're unsure about and bag up the things you're happy to wave goodbye. Drop the good condition items off to your local charity shop.
2
Freshen Up Your Doormats
Hoover over your indoor mats on BOTH sides to really soak up all the dirt. Hoovering the back of your mat will push any leftover dirt onto the floor, where you can easily pick up once you're done. For your outdoor mats, give them a bash on the floor outside to release all the dirt, hose them off and leave in the sun to dry. If there are stains, you can use some soft carpet cleaner with warm water and let that soak before hoovering off.
3
Give Stained Cutting Boards a New Lease Of Life
Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle salt and baking soda on your board, and run the cut side of the lemon over the board to get those stains and marks out.
4
Clean the Oven
A major oven clean is an essential to any Spring makeover. Grab an oven cleaner from the supermarket and follow the instructions to de-gunk your appliance.
5
Vacuum Soft Furniture
Pull the cushions from your sofas and chairs and hoover them all over, covering both sides along with the top and bottom. Then move onto the sofas and chairs, remove the socks, coins and chocolate wrappers you weren't expecting to see and start hoovering along the trim, in the corners and de-crumb your whole piece of furniture.
6
Deep Clean and Re-organise the Fridge
Get everything out of there, pull those gloves up and get cleaning. Wipe interior shelves down. Pop out door shelves and drawers and give them a clean too. Getting rid of any bacteria from food and spillage by using soapy water and rinsing everything well before putting back in.
Once you've cleaned, you've cleaned now you can get to organising! Remove any unnecessary packaging on multipack items to save space, separate the fridge into small groups and bring older items to the front, so they can be used first to reduce food waste.
7
Dust Blinds and Clean Windows
Glorious sunshine can't truly be enjoyed without shiny clean windows and dusted blinds. The key is to wait for an overcast day so everything dries to promote a streak-free finish. Once you've picked your day, grab glass cleaner and a microfibre brush and get wiping!
Once you have cleaned the windows, draw your curtains or lower your blinds and gently dust them down with a duster. Make sure to hoover once you're done, as we don't want lingering dust on the floor.
8
Freshen Your Carpets
For any odours, lightly sprinkle baking soda or spray deodoriser, then grab a soft brush and gently work into the carpet before leaving for approx 30 minutes, then vacuum.
For large stains and marks, a carpet cleaner such as a rug doctor will be great. Wait for a sunny day before moving the furniture out the way and clean the whole area, then open the windows and let the carpet dry. Once dry hoover.
9
Re-organise Your Storage Spaces
De-cluttering storage spaces is guaranteed to give you a full sense of accomplishment. Start by pulling everything out and organising them into keep, donate and toss. Once this is done, add back in the keep items neatly, organising into small groups. Take the donate items to your local charity shop and throw the toss items, making sure to recycle whatever you can.
10
Machine Wash Shower Curtains
Shove your plastic or vinyl shower curtains in the washing machine with a few towels and start on a gentle cycle with your go-to washing detergent. Hang dry outside for a fresh finish.
11
Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Rinse the tips under lukewarm water to remove residual makeup. Fill a bowl with lukewarm water with a few drops of baby shampoo. Swirl each brush in the bowl before rinsing under running water. Squeeze out excess water and dry with a towel or paper towel. Then place your brushes on a towel to drip-dry.

Re-organiser Bookshelves
Take a few minutes to pull the books from your shelf and dust down each shelf and polish for a shiny new look. When placing your books back on, you can organise by alphabet, colour, size, author, your options are endless. Any old books you no longer want or need, donate them to the local charity shop.
